Canterbury Branch Meetings

Our Branch meetings are held on the second Friday of each month. Unless otherwise stated, all meetings will be held at The Red Cross Centre, Lower Chantry Lane (A257), Canterbury, 7.00 for 7.50pm start, and are open to both Members and Non-Members.

There is a good, well lit Car Park almost opposite the Centre. Please note that car-parking charges now apply to evening car parking in Canterbury. If you park before 7pm it is 80p, after 7pm the charge is £1.50.

Refreshments are available and there is a bookstall covering many aspects of Family History.

Members of the Branch can borrow a microfiche reader and various microfiche - including the 1881 Census of Kent; exchange Journals may also be borrowed.

The Branch also has a "Help Desk" at every meeting, manned by Ted Maynard.

10th October 2008 Professor Sir Walter Bodmer People of the British Isles- a National Genetics Study. This is an ongoing project by Oxford University's Department of Clinical Pharmacology to produce a genetic map of the UK. The meeting will start earlier at 7.15pm, with a wine and canapés reception, with the talk commencing at 8pm. If your grandparents were born in the same rural parish, or within a radius of no more than 30-40 miles, volunteers are needed on the night to offer a small blood sample, as part of the 3,500 required countrywide; don't be shy, Kent is a critical part of the study!
