FAMILY HISTORY – The second most popular hobby in the world!

The Kent Family History Society was founded in 1974 in Canterbury, and is run entirely by volunteer members.

The society now has over 4,000 members worldwide and has six branches in east and west Kent who meet most months of the year in Ashford, Canterbury, Deal, Maidstone, Strood and Birchington. All members receive a copy of the society’s journal each, March, June, September and December which is packed full of information connected with family history.

A benefit of membership is the reduced price charged on the Society’s publications on Microfiche (over 2,100 published to date) and CD-ROM (currently 14 published to date).

Entry to the monthly meetings is also free to paid-up members.

Family membership is just £15.00 (includes £5.00 Joining fee) and thereafter at £10.00 per annum. (Fees current as of 01.03.07).

You can join on line via the KFHS ‘Online shop’ at www.kfhs.org.uk and pay by debit or credit card, or by post at Kent FHS, Dept ARM, 29 The Mall, Faversham, Kent ME13 8JL. (Please enclose an ssae).

Click here if you have a quick question regarding your ancestral research in Canterbury. If the answer can be supplied by the branch without the need to conduct further research, we are happy to do so for free; if research in local archives is necessary to investigate the question, we will contact you first with a suggested fee. Please note that we are not in a position to carry out detailed family tree research; your best approach is to contact Canterbury Cathedral Archives for local professional researchers to contact.

I hope that this site will prove to be useful to anybody researching their ancestry in Canterbury.

David Wood, Branch Chairman (and Webmaster!)
